Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. Southwest began operation on July 1, 2000, through legislation that consolidated Shelby State Community College and State Technical Institute at Memphis. The Executive Director of Enrollment Services will report to the Vice President of Student Affairs and will have direct responsibility and oversight for developing, leading, and implementing the strategic enrollment management plan of Southwest Tennessee Community College at multi-delivery sites and will have direct supervision and oversight for the area of Recruitment, Enrollment Management, Dual Enrollment, Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, administrative oversight and policy/protocol/process development for Enrollment Services, including the areas of recruitment, enrollment management, dual enrollment, admissions, registrar, and financial aid.
  • Play an active, measurable role in increasing awareness and interest in Southwest Tennessee Community College throughout Shelby and Fayette counties and the mid-south region.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Financial Aid to optimize the use of aid in order to maximize enrollment, retention, and completion of students.
  • Evaluate and infuse appropriate technologies and practices for improved communication and faster transaction processing for both prospective and enrolled students.
  • Oversee the development and facilitation of the Southwest Tennessee Community College New Student Orientation experience.
    Works collaboratively with departments and units within Student Affairs.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Academic Affairs administrators and instructors to coordinate and ensure appropriate participation by academic units in student recruitment and enrollment processes.
  • Work with the Executive Director of Marketing in coordinating advertising, publications and printing projects based on improving the enrollment process and meeting recruitment goals.
  • Ensure that departments within Enrollment Services provide outstanding customer service to students, families, and others in the College enrollment process.
  • Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field of study, and integrate relevant information into training programs.
  • Maintains accessibility to students via email, phone, or personal conferences.
  • Maintains course/student records such as student grades, attendance, and training activity details in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit records by established deadlines.
  • Participates in college professional development activities.
  • Will work with the appropriate college staff to develop a strategic enrollment management plan.
  • Serves on standing and ad hoc committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, staff senate, or as a student organization advisor. Attends local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary for the division.
  • Mentors and assists in orienting new staff and faculty, either formally or informally where appropriate or required by department or division.
  • Works collaboratively with Executive Director of Retention & Student Success in facilitation of commencement activities.
    Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor.
  • Performs certain administrative or service duties in support of the Division of Student Affairs and College.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution plus 5 years related experience in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience in the areas of enrollment management, admissions, recruitment, or financial aid are strongly preferred.
  • Doctorate in higher education administration or related field preferred.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, administration or the general public.
  • The ability to speak clearly so others can understand your instruction.


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.


  • Under general direction of Vice President of Student Affairs, working from policies and general directives.
  • Rarely refers specific cases to supervisor unless clarification or interpretation of the organization’s policy is required.


  • Considerable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, in addition, the work operations of a group of students.


  • Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance and also frequent opportunity for decision-making of major importance, either of which would affect the work operations of small organizational component and the organization’s customers.
