Position Summary

This is a full-time, fiscal year tenure track faculty appointment with management and supervisory responsibilities as the Dean of Health and Natural Sciences.

The Dean provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the division including Health Sciences, Allied Health, Natural Sciences, and Human Services.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees the Division’s academic programs and services in the credit area, ensuring both their integrity and currency; in collaboration with the faculty, develops and implements a plan for on-going program accountability and development which employs the concepts of institutional effectiveness.

Addresses the needs of faculty and chairs’ professional development and renewal.

Develops guided career pathways in collaboration with Department Chairs.

Serves as the Division’s accreditation liaison for regional and local accreditation, program reviews, and academic audits.

Provides leadership for the development and implementation of an effective plan for managing the Division’s enrollment and retention.

Ensures the Division’s compliance with all SACSCOC Standards and Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies governing the area of academic affairs.

Collaborates with the other areas of the College in meeting the transfer education and training needs of the service region.

Models and supports the innovative use of technology.

Networks with community agencies by serving on various committees/boards.

Serves on Division and College wide committees; collaborates with area colleges to articulate programs.

Develops and monitors Division’s budgets including grants.

Reviews class schedules each semester.

Resolves student, faculty, and staff problems to the extent possible.

Supervises all evaluations conducted by the Division.

May perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in one of the disciplines supervised or related fields, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.

Minimum of (3) three years administrative experience (e.g. Dean, Associate or Assistant Dean, Division Director or Chair or Coordinator), preferably in a community college setting, and (5) five years distinction in full-time teaching in one of the academic disciplines in a higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

Experience or administrative record that demonstrates leadership.

Experience in SACSCOC and accreditation requirements and policies.

Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students and the measurement of training effects.

Ability to lead strategic planning, program accreditation review as necessary, and assessment in the interest of promoting academic program excellence.

Excellent written and verbal skills, including the ability to master complex issues and convey information clearly for varied audiences; and ability to develop and communicate goals in support of the College’s mission.
