The Dean of Faculty Support Services is a full-time, fiscal year position reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The Dean provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within this division.
The area consists of: College Teaching Academy, Library Services, Distance Education, Curriculum Development, and Evening/Weekend/Adjunct Faculty Support.
|Typical Duties and Responsibilities||
Oversees programs and services in the division to ensure integrity and currency.
Fosters innovative ways of meeting the educational needs of students and extend student.
Leads team of directors, deans, and chairs in designing and delivering faculty training opportunities to ensure the most current and effective learning technologies are incorporated into daily classroom methods.
Develops and implements services and training opportunities in collaboration with deans, directors and chairs.
Addresses the needs of faculty and chairs’ professional development and renewal.
Assists in developing guided career pathways in collaboration with division deans and chairs.
Develops and maintains an ongoing program of accountability and effective assessment through collaborative leadership with deans, chairs and directors.
Collaborates with workforce development areas of Southwest in meeting the education and training needs of area businesses, industry and government.
Assists in developing, reviewing, and updating courses and programs in compliance with all Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and SACSCOC policies. Models and supports the innovative use of technology.
Serves on division and College wide committees.
Develops and monitors division’s budgets including grants.
May perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Master’s degree in one of the disciplines supervised or related fields, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
Minimum of (5) five years full-time teaching in one of the academic disciplines in a higher education institution.
Three (3) years of demonstrated administrative leadership.e.g. Dean, Associate or Assistant Dean, Division Director or Chair or Coordinator), preferably in a community college setting
Doctoral degree preferred.
|Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics||
Knowledge of cutting edge technology.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
Skill in excellent oral and written communication.
Ability to plan, organize and manage.
Ability to interpret and implement policies, procedures and guidelines.
Highly developed interpersonal skill.
Demonstrated experience in developing and teaching Distance Learning courses in higher education.
