Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. This is a full time position within the department of Athletics. Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, the Baseball Coach will be responsible for the identification, recruitment and instruction of Southwest student-athletes in the baseball program.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for carrying out all practices necessary to accomplish the objectives of the baseball sport within the guidelines of the College, the TJCCAA, and NJCAA rules.
  • Responsible for recruiting highly skilled student-athletes for the baseball team.
  • Responsible for adhering to and orienting student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the College, Athletics Department, TJCCAA and the NJCAA.
  • Oversee conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
  • Work with the Admissions Office in the enrollment of student-athletes.
  • Responsible for all baseball game functions such as officials, assignment of dressing rooms, etc.
  • Counsel student athletes in sport participation and personal development.
  • Perform routine maintenance on athletic playing field.
  • Drive student athletes or other students to team activities and/or athletic events.
  • Supervise the assistant coach(es) and other part-time employees.
  • Effectively uses fiscal resources to coordinate all team travel.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Physical Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience working with college, or prospective students.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in coaching baseball at the high school level or above; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

  • A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of the NJCAA/TCCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to deliver instruction using strategies designed for diverse learning styles and academic goals.
  • Ability to administer, organize and plan various components of a college baseball program.
