Position Summary

This is a full-time 12 month term faculty position in the Automotive Service Technology program in the Technologies Department.

The Instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom and laboratory instruction and related activities.

The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, and occasionally on the weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned.

This faculty member is responsible for conforming to the standards of our certifying body in regards to course content, professional certification, and update training.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares and delivers lectures on all of the offerings in the Technologies Department or courses as assigned. Curriculum development.

Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others. Academic advising of students.

Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, tests, and papers; and keep students informed about their progress by observation and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement.

Advises and counsels students in academic and career fields. Mentoring and tutoring of students

Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.

Keeps abreast of development in the field, providing recommendations to the department chair on program improvement and development; Serving as the liaison between the Department of Education and the State Department.

Faculty development
Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.

Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records

Performs other duties as assign by Department Head/Dean.

Required Qualifications

*Must be mostly, GM Certified & continual training with General Motors.

*Associate degree or Higher in Automotive Service Technology or a related held, and meaningful automotive repair experience;

OR Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification, industry teaching experience, and meaningful automotive repair experience.

Knowledge and understanding of a college academic environment.

Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.

Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations.

Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Pay Rate $50,000 annually
