Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. • This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Nursing.

• The Assistant Professor reports to the Department Head of Nursing.

• The Assistant Professor is responsible for planning, evaluating, revising curricula, course content, and course materials.

• He/she teaches full-time classroom and clinical instruction for associate’s degree nursing students; assess clinical education needs, utilizing a variety of methods.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Participates as a teacher in the nursing educational program as assigned by the Department Chair.

• Performs all required activities as listed on the College’s Faculty Development form (FDP) and faculty evaluation forms (FEP).

• Keeps accurate records of students’ progress and reports on appropriate form.

• Participates in student advising and utilizes all resources within the college for guidance of students.

• Accurately calculates grades according to criteria printed in each syllabus.

• Maintains office hours, attends and participates in meetings and committee work.

• Maintains ongoing professional development and competence through continuing education.

• Participates in planning, organizing and implementing the nursing curriculum.

• May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing or higher from a nationally accredited institution is required.

• Active, unencumbered Tennessee or compact state RN License is required.

• Minimum five (5) years clinical experience or one (1) year teaching experience is required.

• Must possess current CPR certification.

• Preferred current certification and licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse with preparation in specialty areas.

• Familiar with innovative teaching strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

• Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations.

• Knowledge of ACEN standards and criteria.

• Knowledge of nursing curriculum design and possess a thorough knowledge of nursing theory.

• Knowledge of test construction.

• Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

• Skill in computer software and clinical.

• Ability to teach classes using various instructional delivery methods.

• Ability to adapt to different teaching modalities.
