Position Summary

This is an adjunct faculty position reporting to the Director of the EMS Program and assumes EMS programmatic instructional activities at the Dyersburg Campus, the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County and the DSCC Gibson County Center in Trenton. Duties include clinical coordination of counties in DSCC’s service area. Job requirements include teaching as needed including; didactic, skills demonstration and evaluation, and clinical rotations.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Provide delivery of didactic material, demonstration of psychomotor skills and verification of assessment skill proficiency in the EMS Program.

Collaborate with EMS teaching teams and assist with setting up practice labs.

Assist with the recruitment of EMS students.

Maintain lab equipment and supplies necessary for demonstration.

Submit orders for needed lab equipment.

Maintain inventory of equipment, videos, software and supplies; provide an inventory to the director at the beginning of each academic year and as needed thereafter.

Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional, returning adults.

Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCC’s program viable and competitive.

Flexibility to teach evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses as needed (requires the use of personal vehicle).

Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research-based learning strategies including service learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum.

Develop cooperative education opportunities for students in the local community that provide capstone experiences for the program.

Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes.

Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans, and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.

Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or national organization related to teaching assignment at DSCC.

Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means. Normally, responses are expected in no more than 72 hours.

Willingness to teach in prisons.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Associate Degree from an accredited college/university.

Licensure as a Paramedic in the State of Tennessee and in good standing without history of revocation, denial or suspension.

Current endorsement as a Board-approved trauma, cardiac, and pediatric provider.

Must have completed an EMS board-approved Instructor Coordinator course.

Licensed emergency care experience shall include a minimum of two (2) years practice.

Minimum of two years or one hundred fifty (150) hours of teaching experience in an EMS Program for EMT.

Instructor/Coordinator (I/C) and three hundred (300) hours for Paramedic I/C

Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.

Commitment to teaching and providing quality education for students.

Qualities of integrity, initiative, and good judgment with high ethical standards.

Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups.

Proven effective teaching ability.

Demonstrates the ability to work and communicate effectively with both groups and individuals in a variety of situations and settings.
