Position Summary

Motlow State Community College, the fastest growing college in Tennessee, is seeking energetic and student-focused Biology faculty to teach Biology at the Smyrna Campus and Dual Enrollment sites. Candidates must be willing to work at alternate campus locations. Motlow State Community College offers day, afternoon, night, weekend, online, hybrid, and accelerated courses at four campuses to approximately 5,200 students.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus
• Prepare for labs taught including culture and media preps, lab set up and tear down, and ensure that all lab safety protocol is followed. Must maintain lab cleanliness and order.
• Conduct inventory of lab supplies and communicate the need for supplies to be ordered to the appropriate science coordinator and/or department chair in a timely manner.
• Submit all requested paperwork timely and complete
• Respond promptly to the Dean’s requests
• Participate in graduation exercises
• Support curricular and extracurricular activities within the college
• Stay abreast of current developments in the teaching discipline
• Travel to multiple campuses as needed
• Teach dual enrollment classes at area high schools as needed
• Work as part of a team
• Teach a 15 hour load per semester (summers voluntary)
• Advise and mentor students about academic and career goals
• Serve on college committees
• Post and maintain office hours which provide adequate time for academic advisement with students; out-of-class meetings with students and colleagues; and faculty, division, and departmental meetings.
• Collaborate with Natural Science faculty, curriculum chair, and academic dean about curricular and programmatic issues and needs

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a Master’s degree in Biology or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Biology from a regionally accredited college or university by the appointment date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous community college teaching experience
• Ability to teach in Microbiology
• Digital literacy
