Position Summary

Motlow State Community College, the fastest growing college in Tennessee, is seeking energetic and student-focused Spanish faculty to teach various Spanish courses at the Smyrna campus and dual enrollment Spanish classes at La Vergne High School. Motlow State Community College offers day, afternoon, night, weekend, online, hybrid, and accelerated courses at four campuses to approximately 5,200 students.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated. This will include an approximate one half load at the high school, and a 15 semester credit load requirement per year at the college level. College level teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid courses.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Uses technology and mobile services to enhance classroom instruction.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Meets all reporting requirements such as grade reporting, attendance verification, and early alerts for the college level.
• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms for the high school level.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Maintains weekly office hours. Attend Motlow State Community College’s Fall Convocation and Spring Assembly annually.
• For the college level, the applicant will participate in academic advising, student recruitment/retention, professional development, community service, and college representation as needed.
• For tenure and promotion, TBR policy 5:02:03:70 will be followed. TBR’s policy on academic freedom, 5:02:03:30, will be followed also.
• Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus
• Submit all requested paperwork timely and complete
• Respond promptly to the Dean’s requests
• Participate in graduation exercises
• Support curricular and extracurricular activities within the college
• Stay abreast of current developments in the teaching discipline
• Travel to multiple campuses as needed
• Work as part of a team
• Advise and mentor students about academic and career goals
• Serve on college committees
• Post and maintain office hours which provide adequate time for academic advisement with students; out-of-class meetings with students and colleagues; and faculty, division, and departmental meetings.
• Collaborate with Languages faculty, curriculum chair, and academic dean about curricular and programmatic issues and needs

Required Qualifications

A Tennessee Teaching License AND a Master’s degree in Spanish OR a Master’s Degree in any subject area with 18 graduate hours in Spanish from a recognized, regionally accredited college or university by the appointment date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous community college teaching experience
• Ability to teach in an additional field, such as English
• Digital literacy
