Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. This is a full-time, 9-month term faculty in the Automotive Service Technology program in the Technologies Department. This position reports to the Department Chair.

The Instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities.

The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned.

At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and delivers lectures on all of the offerings in the Technologies Department or courses as assigned. Curriculum development.

• Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others. Academic advising of students.

• Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, tests, and papers; and keep students informed about their progress by observation and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement.

• Advises and counsels students in academic and career fields. Mentoring and tutoring of students.

• Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.

• Keeps abreast of development in the field, providing recommendations to the department chair on program improvement and development; Serving as the liaison between the Department of Education and the State Department. Faculty development.

• Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.

• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records

• May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.

Required Qualifications

Associates degree or higher in Automotive Technology or a related field, and meaningful automotive repair experience.

• Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things. Skill in appropriate computer operations.

• Skill in excellent teaching and organization. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

• Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Ability to interact with a diverse population.

• Ability to exhibit emotional control and stability and manage stress.
