Position Title Learning Support Coordinator
Department MSCC - VP for Marketing and Campus Activities
Position Summary

The Learning Support Coordinator is responsible for assisting the coaches, the Athletic Director, and the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Marketing and Campus Activities with the academic success of Motlow State’s student-athletes. The Learning Support Coordinator teaches student-athletes how to take an active role in their own collegiate learning and educational experience through mentoring, individual and group tutoring, utilizing study halls and employing the college’s math lab and writing centers in order to promote academic excellence. Some parts of this may include tutoring and advising while traveling to and from athletic trips. It reports to the VP Academic Affairs for all academic portions of the job, and to the VP of Marketing for liaison work with athletics and for non-academic assignments such as those during summer/off-season periods.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensures that all student-athletes select an academic major and has a written record of all student-athletes’ stated personal and academic goals geared toward successful degree completion.
2. Ensures and tracks attendance and academic progress of each student–athlete creates and shares data and audit-ready reports that reflects the performance of student-athletes individually and as cohorts.
3. Works collaboratively with academic departments and faculty to increase academic success in the classroom
4. Identifies and addresses individual needs and refers to college and community resources as needed
5. Ensures every athlete attends study hall as prescribed by the coach or college and keeps written attendance records
6. Provides for and/or directs student-athletes to college and community based resources designed to increase student persistence
7. Escorts student-athletes needing Math and Writing help to the Math Lab and Writing Center if and when they need help.
8. Assists student –athletes in becoming more independent, self-confident, and efficient learners
9. Directs a mentoring support system for students
10. Identifies each student-athlete considered potentially at risk and prepares a written plan of action for each student-athlete, and notifies the Athletic Director, the Moore County Dean, and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
11. Provides reports as needed to support retention and progression initiatives
12. Supports the planning and hosting of an annual student- athlete orientation
13. Serves as a liaison between the student-athlete and student support services.
14. Works with leaders in instruction as directed.

3. Maintain acceptable overall attendance record, to include department meetings, all-employee meetings/trainings as required. Ensure appropriate notification to supervisor for absences, and ensure that work is covered. Be flexible in work schedule when needed.
4. Produce quantity of work necessary to meet job requirements.
5. Demonstrate the ability and willingness to handle new assignments, changes in procedures and business requirements. Identify what needs to be done and take appropriate action.
6. Complete assigned work; meet deadlines without reminders/follow-up from supervisor or others.
7. Perform work conscientiously with a high degree of accuracy.
8. Participate in a minimum of 20 hours professional development activities to remain current with industry trends and advancements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Digital Literacy
• Working knowledge of Excel Spreadsheets

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous community college advising experience.
• Experience working with completion plans and motivating success in others.
• Experience coaching for improvement, study skills, and time management.
