Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dean for Student Services to be responsible for the administration and operation of the Career Services Center. This involves assisting students, graduates and alumni with their employment needs for part-time, full-time and permanent employment opportunities, maintain contact with local, regional and national employers, conduct follow-up procedures of graduates, and assist in the employment search of students.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

A. Initiates and maintains contact with local, state and national businesses and industries to promote and encourage the hiring of students and graduates into permanent and/or cooperative education positions.
B. Keeps Nashville area employers informed of the programs of study at Nashville State.
C. Develops, coordinates and maintains the cooperative education program at Nashville State.
D. Develops and monitors department budget ensuring accountability and efficient use.
E. Organizes and maintains a career/job placement library of resource materials needed by students conducting job searches.
F. Maintains resumes of graduates and student profiles of Co-op students who are actively seeking employment.
G. Assists students in preparing for job interviews and supply potential employers with resumes or Co-op student profiles.
H. Establishes and maintains electronic records of students working with the office and on employers that hire our students.
I. Creates marketing materials to promote CSC services to students and employers.
J. Maintains an active web page for the Center and keeps it updated regularly.
K. Conducts a graduate status report survey each semester of Nashville State graduates as part of the Tennessee Board of Regent’s Annual Performance Funding Report.
L. Serves on college committees, as designated by position or appointment.
M. Supervises and evaluates personnel in the Career Services Center.
N. Keeps the Dean for Student Services aware of all on-going activities in the Career Services Center through written and oral communications.
O. Performs related work as assigned.

Required Qualifications

A. Bachelor’s degree required
B. Three years’ work experience required

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

• Must communicate effectively and regularly with business and industry as well as with students and faculty concerning employment, trends and job qualifications.
• Commitment to customer service and strong interpersonal skills
• Working knowledge of microcomputer software including word processing, spreadsheets and databases as well as web knowledge.
