Must have the ability to travel between two (2) main campuses and site locations. Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. This is a full-time permanent, fiscal year position responsible for financial reporting, analysis, reconciliation and ensuring the accuracy of student refunds of Southwest Tennessee Community, Southwest Foundation and Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis.

Responsible for the documentation of financial processes to include accounting manuals, policies and procedures and internal control documentation; and identifies and implements necessary internal controls improvement and ensures the efficiency of restricted accounting areas.

This position reports to the Director of Fiscal Operations.  

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

•Provides fiscal management of Federal, State, Local, and Private Grants.

•Completes a review of all Grant Funded programs to determine reporting requirements and restrictions; establishes priority status; summarizes contract information, and determines allowable charges. ($4.5 million)

•Advises Grant Directors of spending not in conformance with Grantor/Institutional policies.

•Prepares and submits interim and year end documents.

•Assists Grant Directors in the preparation and final submission of operating budgets to the Director of Fiscal Operations.

•Provides support to grant managers in identifying, printing, and interpreting Banner Finance Reports. (General & Subsidiary Ledger Reports) Specific expenditures and payments received are located and verified for accuracy.

•Prepares reimbursement requests, financial status reports, inventory, and close-out documents according to contract, agency and college procedures; reconcile reports to restricted fund statements, check for compliance and cash flow status; resolve identified problems.

•Assists with the college’s year end close by reconciling all restricted accounts.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited college and experience which enable one to perform the essential job functions.

Three (3) years of recent experience in Federal Grants, accounting, auditing or finance.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

Knowledge of accounting systems and internal controls and the ability to recommend improvements and assist with system updates and conversions.

Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Higher education experience is a plus.

Excellent computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation software, and Internet usage.

Organizational skills to determine workload priorities.

Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
