Position Summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College is a comprehensive, multicultural, public, open—access college. Southwest Tennessee Community College aims to employ nursing tutors to provide learning support, course reinforcement, and coaching to students outside the classroom in one or more of the qualified subject areas.

The Professional Nursing Tutor will assist the RN Students with course content, remediation and exam preparation.
This position will report to the Advance Grant Coordinator.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Tutors students in content area as well as in test taking skills in preparation for all exams (course, standardized, exit and NCLEX-RN).

• Assists with assessing the academic needs of the nursing students and developing plans for remediation.

• Maintains documentation on student remediation plans, progression and success.

• Communicates students’ progress to the Advance Grant Coordinator.

• Develops reports as required.

• Demonstrates current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of nursing program and accurately communicates academic policies and regulations to students.

• Demonstrates effective behaviors and accountability in meeting the Southwest Community College standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies.

• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing required.

• Nursing License

• Provide one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, or online tutoring.

• Answer questions relating to course content and offer study strategies to empower student success.

• Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.

• Ability to work with a diverse student population.

• Ability to work well with peers, staff, and faculty.
