This is a full-time position working under the general supervision of the Department Head of Technologies.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting faculty and students in their classroom and research experiments. He/she serves primarily as the Mechanical Engineering Technology Laboratory Technician.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

•Maintains the Mechanical Engineering Technology laboratories and classrooms. This includes, but is not limited to, making sure that: safety issues are resolved or reported in a timely manner; work areas are clean; tools are stored in their proper locations; laboratory equipment is functioning properly.

•Assists the full-time and adjunct mechanical engineering technology instructors before, during and after scheduled class meetings.

•Maintains the parts and equipment inventory for the Mechanical Engineering Technology laboratories and classrooms. Order parts and equipment when necessary.

•May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a machine shop or related environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

Knowledge of and experience with hand tools and standard machine shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes, sheet metal brakes, grinders, etc.

Knowledge of use and care of maintenance tools and materials relating to electronic repair of complex and delicate laboratory equipment.

Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and precautions.

Ability to develop and follow preventive maintenance program.

Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
