Position Summary

The Humanities Department at Chattanooga State Community College in Chattanooga, Tennessee seeks candidates for a one-year post-Master’s Fellowship/Visiting Instructor position.
This position carries a 5/5 load of freshmen composition, committee work, and tutoring, and it is reserved for a promising new instructor who will be a recent graduate of a credentialed English Master’s program. The position includes a competitive salary and full benefits.

The position is limited to one academic year, with no opportunity for renewal or summer instruction. However, successful instructors are eligible to apply for any other full-time openings that may become available in the following year.

Start date: August 2018

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

*Develop courses, lessons, exercises and examinations
*Order, organize, and maintain all supplies and equipment needed for classroom instruction
*Conduct classroom training sessions and lab type practical instruction using modern instructional techniques
*Maintain records of attendance, test grades, lab performance
*Evaluate class and individual programs
*Serve on Departmental and/or Divisional committees
*Tutor in the College Writing Center

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a graduate major concentration in English (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline) required.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with terminal degrees are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to those with no more than an M.A.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

The successful applicant will possess evidence of innovative composition instruction, will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field of composition and rhetoric, and will provide strong recommendations from his or her appropriate supervisors within his/her graduate program.
