Position Summary

The overall purpose of the Career Coach is to partner with individual students to assist them in overcoming barriers to career success. The coach will assist students by providing individual career counseling and job analysis. The Career Coach will assist with jobs skills training, including soft-skills workshops, interview skills workshops, resume and cover letter writing workshops, job search workshops, job application workshops, one-on-one mock interview practice and review of targeted resumes and cover letters. The Career Coach will also accompany students, as needed, to internships and serve as a liaison between internship site and student during his/her internship to ensure the student is meeting workplace expectations and facilitate a positive internship experience.

Hours:Temporary Contract. Up to 25 hrs/variable times

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

10% Work with individual students to provide career counseling and conduct a job analysis. Build relationships with students to accurately determine students’ internship and employment coaching needs.
10% Work with individual students to identify and remediate any barriers to internships and employment.
20% Assist Career Specialists with providing soft-skills workshops, interview skills workshops, resume and cover letter writing workshops and job search and job application workshops.
15% Work with students to provide one-on-one mock interview practice and review and provide feedback on targeted resumes and cover letters.
30% Accompany students, as needed, to their internships to provide support and to help ensure students use appropriate workplace social skills.
5% Serve as a liaison between internship site and student during their internship or volunteer opportunity to ensure the student is meeting workplace expectations and work to resolve any outstanding issues. Work to facilitate a positive internship experience.
5% Assist students in self-advocating for reasonable workplace accommodations, if needed.
5% Communicate with the Business Liaison about the specifics of the internship sites in preparation for student internships.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from college with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education, psychology, counseling, rehabilitation counseling or social work.

• At least two years of demonstrated successful work helping teach job training skills to people with disabilities. Applicants must have a consistent work history.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

An ability to analyze student’s needs and provide individualized prescriptive skills development for students in the areas of job skills and soft-skills. Extremely proficient in communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of employers and the ability to travel to various job sites to attend students’ internships.
