To teach and develop music courses and to conduct instrumental ensemble choirs, while furthering the goals of the program, department, college, and community college system

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

65% A. TEACHING: Develop and teach music courses to a diverse student population using both traditional and alternative delivery formats (hybrid, web, cohort, accelerated). Prepare course syllabi, course materials, evaluate student learning and maintain class records. Primary courses load includes teaching and directing of instrumental ensembles in area of expertise.

20% C. SERVICE/OUTREACH: Participate in program/curriculum development and assessment, student advising, department meetings, and college boards and committees. Perform related duties as assigned.

15% D. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participate in continuing professional development to improve teaching, evaluation of student learning and classroom technique.

Required Qualifications

A. Completed Master’s degree in Music (instrumental concentration other than piano or guitar) from a regionally accredited institution.
B. Minimum one year related teaching experience at the postsecondary level
C. Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics

A. demonstrated competence teaching music courses in a traditional face-to-face classroom
B. experience teaching music appreciation course preferred
C. demonstrated competence leading and directing instrumental ensemble groups
D. experience teaching in a community college preferred
E. ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
F. expertise in curriculum development is required

Some use of telephone, computer equipment, overhead projector, fax machines and other standard office equipment is required. Facility with computer communication systems and visual aid production a must.
